REAL STORIES OF PROGRESS

  • One Little Boy’s Big Steps Forward

    1. STARTING POINT

When this little boy first came to us at five years old, his days were filled with big emotions and big struggles. He often tried to avoid tasks, would run away from activities, repeat certain movements, and have frequent tantrums.

ON A TYPICAL DAY, THESE MOMENTS CAN HAPPEN TEN OR MORE TIMES.

Communication was hard for him, and he was only able to use single words to express what he needed. This made it difficult for him to connect with other children and adults, and he often felt misunderstood.

    2. OUR APPROACH

This child had a strong need to move, so instead of fighting that, we worked with it. We built movement into his learning, giving him chances to play in the gym, on the playground, and outside. We taught him that it was okay to ask for a break when his body felt tired or overwhelmed.

LITTLE BY LITTLE, HE LEARNED HOW TO TELL US WHEN HE NEEDED SPACE, REST, OR MOVEMENT.

At the same time, we focused on encouraging positive behaviors by rewarding his efforts and teaching him new ways to communicate. He began to feel safe with his teachers and Behavior Technician, knowing they cared about him and truly listened. That sense of trust made a world of difference.

    3. PROGRESS & OUTCOMES

After six months of ABA services, his challenging behaviors dropped from more than ten times a day to just three or four. Even more beautiful was the change in his communication. He went from using single words to speaking in short sentences of three to four words, making eye contact, and finding appropriate ways to share his needs.

HIS RELATIONSHIPS WITH PEERS STARTED TO GROW, AND HE BECAME MORE CONFIDENT JOINING GROUP ACTIVITIES.

    4. WHERE HE IS TODAY

TODAY HE LOOKS FORWARD TO COMING TO SESSIONS. HE FEELS SUPPORTED, UNDERSTOOD, AND PROUD OF HIMSELF.

By honoring who he is and meeting him where he was, we helped him take meaningful steps toward independence, connection, and joy.

  • An Eight-Year-Old Girl’s Journey

    1. STARTING POINT

When this eight-year-old girl first began ABA services, her family was facing many daily challenges. She lives in a home where one parent manages a physical disability, which added extra stress to already difficult routines.

At that time, she experienced frequent tantrums, aggressive behaviors including hitting herself and others, and often avoided tasks. Her parents needed significant community support just to get through the day.

THEY CAME TO US LOOKING FOR HELP-AND HOPE.

    2. OUR APPROACH

Our team focused not only on supporting their daughter, but also on empowering her parents through consistent parent training. Through hands-on modeling from the BCBA and the Behavior Technician who worked closely with the family, her parents learned practical strategies they could use every day.

The agency remained flexible in providing ABA services both at school and at home, ensuring she received consistent support across all environments.

TOGETHER, WE WORKED TO UNDERSTAND WHAT SHE NEEDED EMOTIONALLY AND PHYSICALLY, AND TAUGHT HER HEALTHIER WAYS TO EXPRESS HERSELF.

    3. PROGRESS & OUTCOMES

Over time, she learned calming strategies that truly worked for her: listening to music, playing outside, engaging in functional play with her dolls, and using art as a way to regulate her emotions.

These tools gave her a sense of control and comfort. A visual schedule was introduced to help her understand what to expect throughout the day, reducing anxiety and making transitions smoother.

ONE YEAR INTO ABA SERVICES, THE CHANGES HAVE BEEN REMARKABLE.

    4. WHERE SHE IS TODAY

Most community support is no longer needed. Tantrums have almost completely disappeared, and aggressive behaviors are no longer present. She now follows her daily routine with confidence — completing homework, cleaning her room, and independently managing personal care such as bathing, brushing her teeth, combing her hair, and dressing herself.

Her communication has blossomed as well. She has gone from making very little eye contact to engaging confidently with others and using full sentences to express her needs and wants.

Equally important, her parents have gained valuable skills. With continued guidance and modeling from her BCBA and Behavior Technician, they now recognize early signs of dysregulation and know how to prompt her to use calming strategies or take a break before behaviors escalate.

They’ve learned how to provide attention in meaningful ways and discovered her strong artistic side — which has become one of her most powerful tools for self-regulation.

By understanding the purpose behind her behaviors — whether seeking attention or trying to escape overwhelming situations — her parents have learned to respond proactively, often preventing challenges before they begin.

Today, this young girl is calmer, more independent, and better able to connect with those around her.

HER FAMILY FEELS EMPOWERED, SUPPORTED, AND CONFIDENT IN HELPING HER CONTINUE TO GROW.
